AURUM
is an easily melt processable and recyclable thermoplastic polyimide
resin providing continuous service temperatures to 465° F in
its amorphous state and up to 550° F when annealed to its semicrystalline
state. AURUM exhibits low outgassing, superior radiation resistance,
and excellent resistance to chemicals.
Injection
Molding -
AURUM is available
as a neat resin and in compounded form using carbon or glass fibers, PTFE, or
other performance enhancing fillers. AURUM compounds provide tensile strength
values to 38,000 psi, a low coefficient of friction, outstanding wear resistance,
and sealing compliance. High performance AURUM compounds are available for ESD
and plating applications.
AURUM
applications include components for automotive and aircraft engines,
transmissions, farming, off-road and construction equipment; industrial
machinery, electric motors, pumps and compressors; business machines
such as laser printers and high speed copy machines; electronic
and semiconductor transport media; analytical and medical equipment;
conveyors and textile equipment.
Injection
molded components include gears, seal rings, bearings and retainers,
bushings, thrust washers and disks, valves and valve seats, burn-in-sockets,
trays and carriers for semiconductor and hard disc manufacturing,
and thermal and electrical insulators. AURUM is generally considered
a replacement for metals, ceramics, thermoset resins, lower temperature
thermoplastic and more difficult to process polyimides.
Extrusion
- AURUM is extruded into the following product forms:
- Films
with thickness ranging from 0.75 mil to 22 mil
- High-performance
monofilament and multifilament
- Wire
and cable insulation with wall thickness as low as 1 mil
- Thin-wall
tubing
- Rod
